Ariana Grande is facing backlash after revealing on a podcast she once told younger fans that her dream dinner guest would be Jeffrey Dahmer.
During Penn Badgley’s podcast Podcrushed last week, Grande said, “I was infatuated with serial killers when I was younger.”
The singer recalled a Q&A session from earlier in her career, where she mentioned her fascination with Jeffrey Dahmer. “It was in between me being Cat (from Sam & Cat) and my pop music career, so it was a younger group, and they were with parents. Someone asked, ‘If you could have dinner with anyone, living or dead, who would it be?'”
Grande continued, “I asked, ‘Mom and dad, is it okay if I give the real answer?’ They said, ‘Sure, what’s the answer?’ And I said, ‘Jeffrey Dahmer’s pretty fascinating.'”
“I think I would have loved to have met him,” she said, her voice alternating pitch in an unusual way. “You know, maybe with a third party or someone involved. I have questions,” she added.
According to The Tab, the podcast also mentioned that Ariana’s mom, Joan, is really into horror, which might explain the singer’s fascination with true crime— a phenomenon so common with Western women, that it has been dubbed “murder porn.”
The internet has reacted strongly to the singer’s comments.
“Joking about wanting to have dinner with him is sick and horribly offensive to the victims’ families, who are still alive and affected by the tragedy,” one Redditor commented.
“Instead of sharing something meaningful with her younger fans, mentioning someone who inspired her or had a positive impact on her, she chose to try to be ‘edgy’ and ‘quirky,'” another chimed in.
A tweet also criticized her, stating, “Telling small children that your dream dinner date is with a cannibalistic mass murderer is normal?”

Jeffrey Dahmer, a serial killer, was arrested in 1991 for the murder and dismemberment of 17 males. Evan Peters recently played him in a Netflix series about the criminal.
As of now, Ariana Grande has not responded to the backlash over her comment about Jeffrey Dahmer.
Grande is known for her tumultuous relationships, including with comedian Pete Davidson.
